A research and design practice bridging arts, technology, and learning sciences

We help organizations explore how creative processes and emerging technologies transform the way people learn, collaborate, and innovate.

Projects at the intersection of design, technology, and learning

AI-Augmented Design Community of Practice

Building a cross-sector network exploring how AI transforms design processes through collaborative learning and hands-on experimentation.

AI & Design Curriculum

Teaching designers to develop a "bias towards action" when working with AI—moving from conversation to creation through making.

Stanford d.school Workshop Design

Generative AI User Research

Foundational research on how digital creators integrate AI tools into their workflows, informing product strategy and design decisions.

Google DeepMind UX Research

AI-Augmented Design

Supporting designers as they adopt AI-augmented design practices through curricula, hands-on experiences, and collaborative resources.

Workshop Design & Facilitation

Participatory experiences that help teams prototype with emerging technologies and develop new collaborative practices.

Documentary Research & Video Storytelling

Conducting qualitative research and translating insights into compelling video narratives that bring human experiences to life.

Learning Experience Design

Creating environments and programs that foster creativity, innovation, and learning through making in formal and informal settings.

We believe in learning by doing

Art Experience Lab takes a rigorous, participatory approach to research and design. We ground our work in learning sciences and arts-based methods, helping teams move from discussion to action through prototyping, making, and experimentation.

Our practice bridges academic research with practical application, building communities of practice across sectors and disciplines. We're particularly focused on how AI transforms creative work and how people learn through hands-on engagement with emerging technologies.

Art Experience Lab is led by Maryanna Rogers, a researcher and designer with a PhD in Learning Sciences from Stanford. The practice draws on experience from Google DeepMind, Meta, Mozilla, and The Tech Interactive to bridge academic research with applied design work. Learn more about the founder →
